The community of Buffalo Narrows hosted the media launch of the Saskatchewan Centennial Canoe Quest over the weekend.

Canoe Quest co-ordinator Sharalyn Reitlo says the 1,018-kilometre, 19-day canoe stage race and pageant will see voyageurs trek the historical “voyageur water highway”.

Reitlo says the main goals and objectives of the canoe quest are to highlight the North’s beauty during the province’s Centennial and promote healthy living at the same time.

The race will begin at the Clearwater River Dene Nation in La Loche on June 20th and finish in Cumberland House on July 5th.

A total of 31 teams have entered the event and come from as far away as Scotland.
