Provincial Firefighters Exported To B.C.

Saskatchewan Environment has sent 40 firefighters to British Columbia.

The Type 1 personnel departed yesterday for Cranbrook, where they are now set to be dispersed to other blazes throughout that province.

Department spokeswoman Jeanette Krayetski says this is the first time in 2006 that Saskatchewan is sending firefighters outside the province.

During the height of the forest fire crisis in northern Saskatchewan last month, roughly 1,500 firefighters were working on the blazes — including dozens borrowed from other provinces.

Krayetski says the crews are expected to be gone for approximately two weeks.
