Province Updating Northern “Values-At-Risk”

A provincial fire official says work is being done this month to re-identify how vulnerable certain northern cottages and outfitting camps are to forest fires.
John Cook says his department is creating a digital map of buildings in the North and marking them with global positioning devices so it knows exactly where they are when wildfires begin to spread.
He says crews in damp areas have begun to record data, and he advises northern property owners they may see crews from time to time taking pictures of certain regions.
Cook says the measures are being taken to update the province’s “values-at-risk” inventory for the North.
Saskatchewan Environment spokesman Steve Roberts says accurate and timely information helps property owners protect their interests from a wildfire.
