Province Still Weighing Spotlight Hunting Ruling

A director with Saskatchewan Environment says it’s too early to say how a Supreme Court of Canada ruling in B.C. will affect the illegal practice of spotlight hunting in this province.
Last month, the high court ruled that some First Nations people near Victoria could hunt at night.
The SCOC justices felt a blanket ban that had been imposed in that province was unfair, because they didn’t see the practice as being necessarily dangerous.
Dave Harvey, with the province’s enforcement section, says the practice is outlawed in Saskatchewan due to concerns over safety and fairness.
He adds his department is working with Saskatchewan Justice to determine how the ruling should be interpreted.
