A number of Aboriginal women from Saskatchewan have received prestigious awards.

In all, 25 First Nations and Metis women received the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal at a ceremony yesterday in Regina.

Renowned Metis author and academic Dr. Maria Campbell, Judge Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond, Metis entertainer Andrea Menard and Prince Albert Grand Council Women’s Commission head Shirley Henderson were among the women recognized yesterday.

The awards are meant to commend the work of the women in the development of Saskatchewan.

The province has declared 2005 to be the Year of First Nations and Metis Women.
