The province has approved funding in principle for a new school in Turnor Lake for 2010-2011.

The funds would be used to build a new K-12 school on the Birch Narrows First Nation.

According to Saskatchewan Education Minister Ken Krawetz, the provincial government and Northern Lights School Division would chip in 17 per cent of the cost, with the federal government covering the rest.

Krawetz says there is still some work to be done before it becomes a reality –- namely securing a funding commitment from Ottawa.

The school in Turnor Lake currently covers Kindergarten to Grade 9.
