A number of communities in Northern Saskatchewan will be saving some money on property tax this year. The provincial government has given Cumberland House just-under four thousand dollars in grants in lieu of taxes as well as grants to 29 other northern settlements.

The money will cover buildings that are owned through Saskatchewan Property Management. Meadow Lake will receive one hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars and La Ronge will see two hundred and forty-seven thousand dollars.

Denare Beach, Creighton, La Loche and Loon Loon Lake are just a few of the other communities that will be receiving grants. Not including La Ronge and Meadow Lake’s share, northern communities will share just under $59,000 under terms of the program.

Provincewide the government will provide $10.98 million dollars to 13 cities, the north, 23 rural municipalities and 72 towns, villages and resort villages.
