The Saskatchewan government has announced it’s going to review the state of child welfare in the province.

Social services minister Donna Harpauer says the probe will include all aspects of child welfare, including foster-situations, adoption and the prevention of abuse.

Saskatoon city councillor and former food bank director Bob Pringle has been appointed to head up a panel of independent overseers.

The panel will preside over stakeholder consultations with the public that are slated to begin next year.

The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations has given its blessing to the review.

It says it looks forward to a process that can help create better outcomes for First Nations families.
