Province Outlines FNUC Funding Conditions

Saskatchewan’s learning minister says it’s unlikely provincial funding will be cut off to the First Nations University of Canada.

Andrew Thomson and Indian Affairs Minister Andy Scott compared notes about the troubled institution during a meeting this week in Ottawa.

Thomson won’t say what was decided at that get-together, but is reiterating his position that the province would likely pull its annual $1.8-million funding commitment to the university if the school loses its accreditation.

However, Thomson doesn’t envision the FNUC losing its status.

University officials have a meeting scheduled with the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada later this month to discuss the school’s accreditation status.
