The province is taking steps to find a new manager for some timber rights north of Prince Albert.

The P.A. forest management agreement has been in the hands of Domtar ever since the company purchased the P.A. pulp mill a few years ago.

Energy minister Bill Boyd says the government hopes to turn the forestry rights over to a new group composed of businesses and first nations.

Boyd says a number of northern groups are already showing interest.

However the government says it is still hopeful something will happen with the P.A. pulp mill.

Boyd says they are setting aside a wood allocation in the event it somehow opens.
