Province Keeping Safe Distance from Metis Vote

It doesn’t sound like the province will get involved in any dispute surrounding the most recent Metis election.

The provincial government and Ottawa spent the last several months working with the MNS to help implement some of the recommendations in a Metis electoral reform study.

However, it appears that will be the extent of the province’s involvement in Metis politics.

Aboriginal Affairs spokesman John Reed says no matter how much controversy surrounds the MNS election, the province is not willing to intervene in any way.

Reed also says pulling the plug on funding to the MNS as an incentive for the organization to clean up its act is not an option.
