The provincial government is giving a northern Saskatchewan health region a helping hand with its operating costs.

The Keewatin Yatthe Regional Health Authority is being given an additional $490,000 for the current budget year.

First Nations and Metis Relations Minister June Draude says the health region is facing great financial pressures with a growing population, and this funding “will ensure that services can continue uninterrupted”.

The funding boost will offset travel costs for two new visiting doctor positions, and increased operating costs at the new hospital in Ile-a-la-Crosse.

Keewatin Yatthe’s budget for the current fiscal year is $18.8 million.
