The coordinator of a harm-reduction program in Prince Albert has announced he’s leaving his post.

Ken Ward has spent the last year-and-a-half trying to raise awareness and develop solutions to the problems caused by the city’s drug-trade.

A former drug-addict himself, Ward says he will try to find a replacement as soon as possible, and help bring that person up to speed on the many issues facing the city’s drug-users.

Ward feels not enough structures are in place right now to deal with all the social and medical problems caused by drugs, and that is currently reflected by the fact Prince Albert only has one detox-centre.

Ward adds the country’s legal and social system is also placing too many demands upon the many people wishing to leave life on the streets.

Ward says he looks to continuing his work in another region of the country with victims of fetal-alcohol syndrome.
