First Nations veterans in the province are mourning the recent loss of one of their own.

On the weekend of August 26th, Victor “Boss” Daniels died after falling down the steps of a hotel in North Battleford.

Hilliard Gardypie, the northern president of the Saskatchewan First Nations Veterans Association, says his 78-year-old friend served in Korea and was the southern rep for veterans in the province.

He says he got to know Daniels quite well over the past five or six years and will miss him greatly.

Daniels was a member of the Peepeekisis First Nation.

Meantime, a spokesperson for the RCMP says there is an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Daniels’ death.

Sergeant Brad Kaeding says officers were talking to the veteran when he fell down the hotel stairs.

Kaeding says a police officer from Saskatoon has been called in to handle the probe.
