A new program has been launched, with the goal of preserving and retaining traditional medicine in morthern Saskatchewan.

Eight residents of Sturgeon Lake and two residents of Denare Beach make up the Traditional Health program.

The purpose of the program is to ensure traditional medicine isn’t lost to future generations.

One of the group’s leaders, Danny Moosehunter, says his people believe strongly that a concerted effort is needed to ensure traditional medicine survives.

“Revival — keeping it alive, keeping traditional medicine alive — is one of our main themes, with working with roots and barks and plant life,” Moosehunter says.

The group says it’s doing its best to research 48 existing types of medicine.
