A 37-year-old man from the Cote First Nation has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of an infant this past fall.

At approximately 8:25 a.m. on September 21st, the Kamsack RCMP and emergency medical services personnel responded to a 9-1-1 call about the death of an infant child at a residence on the Cote reserve.

The suspect turned himself in and was arrested after a lengthy investigation by the RCMP’s Regina-based Major Crimes Unit, the Yorkton RCMP General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Section.

Delbert Warren Whitehawk made his first court appearance today in Wadena.

He has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Wednesday in Kamsack.
