Nominations have closed for the upcoming election at the Flying Dust First Nation.

Marlene Frigon, Percy Durocher and Leon Matchee are all letting their names stand in the battle for chief.

Incumbent Rico Merasty is quitting politics to enrol at a Bible college in Columbus, Ohio.

Frigon, a high-school student counsellor, says she hopes to raise issues over housing, economic development and treatment of the elderly if elected.

Frigon feels youth on the Flying Dust reserve need to be consulted more on issues affecting them.

She also wants to create committees to give common band members more of a voice than the one they’re presently getting.

She’s currently based in Prince Albert, but Frigon says she will try to move back on to the reserve, if she can.

The election is set for December 6th.
