Prince Albert Site Of New Youth Remand Centre

A new remand unit for young offenders has been opened in Prince Albert.

This morning, Corrections and Public Safety Warren McCall toured the Prince Albert Youth Centre, where the new facility is housed.

The new unit provides space for 12 additional youth, and also features a room where inmates can talk to their lawyer or families.

McCall says he thinks the new facility will help give peace of mind to troubled youth when they arrive.

He believes the new unit follows principles consistent with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which calls for new approaches to supervision and treatment.
