Chiefs, band councillors and elders from 12 First Nations in northeast Saskatchewan are in Prince Albert today for the Prince Albert Grand Council’s annual assembly.

The PAGC represents over 30-thousand First Nations citizens and 5 tribal groups.

Today’s gathering is a pre-cursor to the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations’ fall assembly in Saskatoon, which gets underway tomorrow.

The FSIN assembly will feature elections for the federation executive, including the office of chief. Incumbent Perry Bellegarde is being challeged by former PAGC chief Alphonse Bird and Wes George. FSIN vice chiefs Greg Ahenakew and Lindsay Cyr are also seeking re-election, but face several challengers.
