Representatives of 4 Métis communities in Northwestern Saskatchewan will select banking officials to safeguard their money this weekend.

Beginning Sunday afternoon at a meeting in Beauval, members of the Primrose Air Weapons Range Bargaining Committee will select a trustee and investment official to care for 19.5 million dollars in settlement dollars.

The money comes from the Government as part of an agreement between the two sides to compensate communities that were impacted by the creation of the Air Weapons Range.

Chairman of the committee, Alex Maurice says its important local residents understand the money is being used primarily for economic development and NOT compensation.

Maurice does say though that compensation is still being provided to those elders who can prove they were forced off the land prior to 1953.
