The chief of the Canoe Lake First Nation says he is pleased by progress made in a recent meeting with Indian Affairs Minister Jim Prentice.
Guy Lariviere says the two discussed the contentious issue of the residential school compensation process, among other topics.
Lariviere says he told Prentice he didn’t like recent talk in the media, about how a legal squabble over lawyers’ fees between Tony Merchant and Ottawa, could potentially hold up compensation payments.
Lariviere says Prentice told him the payments would not be delayed as long as he was minister.
He also told the chief he would get someone to look at their requests for a new band hall and senior citizens’ residence.
