Prentice Named New Indian Affairs Minister

Calgary North Centre Conservative MP Jim Prentice has been appointed the new minister of Indian Affairs and the new federal interlocutor for Metis.

 

The 49-year-old lawyer was handed the dual role this morning when new Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced his cabinet.

 

Both the Indian Affairs and the Metis portfolios were handled by the Liberals’ Andy Scott prior to last month’s election.

 

Prentice served as a Commissioner of the Indian Claims Commission of Canada for 10 years.

 

He was first election in the 2004 federal election, and served as the opposition critic for Indian and Northern Affairs prior to the most recent election.
