Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert says the new liquor store in La Ronge will not be built next to an elementary school.

Calvert says he’s instructed the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority to put the project on hold until a more suitable location is found.

The proposed location has generated negative feedback from some parents of schoolchildren.

Calvert says the people have spoken and governments should listen to the citizens they represent.

The premier says he informed La Ronge mayor Joe Hordyski of the halted plans this morning.
