A preliminary hearing has been set for a man accused in the stabbing death of a Clearwater River band member.

Mitchell Lemaigre, 20, will appear before a judge on March 30.

The purpose of the hearing will be to determine whether or not enough evidence exists to warrant a trial.

Lemaigre faces one count of manslaughter.

He was charged in the spring, after Palmer Piche, 30, died in an altercation on the reserve.

Piche’s body was discovered outside a home by a passerby.

Court officials say Lemaigre was released from custody last month.
