An FSIN vice-chief hopes to commission a documentary on the detrimental impacts Health Canada policies have on First Nations people.
Vice-Chief Glen Pratt says there are issues around transportation, such as when many people with various illnesses are stuck in one vehicle together.
There have also been cases where illnesses that should be treatable result in death.
Pratt says there are also instances of people not being able to afford necessary medications, because they have been prescribed “designer” versions of drugs, which then are not covered by Health Canada’s non-insured benefits plan.
It is Pratt’s hope that the documentary would be screened at various film festivals and aired on television.
He says the film would also be shown to government officials and human rights organizations.
