A famous battle will be re-staged at the Poundmaker Cree Nation next summer.
Cree and Assiniboine warriors fought North West Mounted Police and militia near Cut Knife Hill in 1885.
The band is working with Tourism Saskatchewan and other groups to recreate the battle.
Organizers are inviting Queen Elizabeth to attend the re-enactment and tour the reserve.
Poundmaker Chief Duane Antoine says the event is estimated to cost about $300,000.
He admits that’s a lot of money, but he figures it’s worth it.
“It is going to be costly, but that’s something we want to do for the community of Poundmaker,” Antoine says.
He says the cost will be covered by senior levels of government, as well as several big corporations.
Plans call for the re-enactment to be held in late June or early July.
