Leaders in Canada’s Aboriginal community are calling on former IOC vice-president Dick Pound to resign over what they’re calling racist remarks.

Pound, who’s now the chancellor of McGill University, recently referred to Canada as being a “country of savages” 400 years ago.

Assembly of First Nations B-C regional chief Shawn Atleo says he’s deeply offended by the comments, and calls them disturbing, purely racist, void of any historic evidence, and highly inappropriate for a university chancellor.

Atleo also commends the McGill Board of Governors for distancing itself from Pound’s comments.
