Polls Open In Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River

Monday, March 17, 2008 at 13:22

It is by-election day in northern Saskatchewan.

Four candidates are vying to replace former Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River Liberal MP Gary Merasty, who resigned last summer after a year-and-a-half in office.

This time, former provincial NDP cabinet minister Joan Beatty is representing the Liberals.

Beatty is up against the Conservatives’ Rob Clarke, the NDP’s Brian Morin and the Green Party’s Robin Orr.

The race is considered the most wide-open of the four by-elections taking place in the country today.

The Liberals, Tories and NDP have all won this riding in recent years.

Polls close at 7:30 tonight.

MBC will air results throughout the evening.
