The Prince Albert Police Service held a press conference this morning to discuss the shooting death of an Aboriginal woman in the city over a year ago.

44-year-old Jackie Montgrand died in a West Flat residence on March 18th, 2008 after being shot by a city police officer.

Several officers were attending a 9-1-1 call when police say Montgrand confronted the officers with a knife.

Inspector Kelly Steinwand couldn’t divulge details of exactly what happened the day in question, but he did say it was just one officer that fired.

Steinwand says the police have met with the family to discuss their findings in the case, and an inquest is pending.

Meantime, an inspector in Saskatoon says he has finally completed his review of the Prince Albert detachment’s investigation into the shooting.

Jeff Bent says the file has been sent to the deputy justice minister to be reviewed.
