A selection of original artworks from some female inmates will be on display tonight in Prince Albert.

Beginning at 7 p.m., members of the public are invited out to the P.A. Arts Centre to see works done by the Pine Grove Creative Circle.

For the past year, inmates at the institution have been working with professional artists in a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing, video projects and writing.

Event coordinator Judy McNaughton says she hopes tonight’s show gives people a better sense of who the women really are and the messages they want to share.

“I hope that people will be able to appreciate the work that’s come out of these collaborative projects, and get a sense of the perspectives of the participants in the project. We hope that people will be able to understand what it is the women are trying to communicate through the work that they’ve done,” McNaughton says.

McNaughton says around 40 women were involved in the art program this year.

She says they’ve held the program before, but this is the first time they’ve held a formal reception for all the pieces.
