A volleyball player from northwest Saskatchewan has been honoured by a national organization.

Alwyn Piche of La Loche is one of 12 youth to be selected as a 2007 role model by the National Aboriginal Health Organization.

Each year, the group selects young people between the ages of 13 to 30 who have made a positive impact on their community.

Piche has won numerous scholarships and awards during his time as a volleyball player.

He also competed with Team Canada in 2005 at the world championships in Algeria.

Piche is fluent in the Denesuline language, and is currently enrolled in studies at Keyano College in Fort McMurray.
