A member of the Piapot First Nation was one of seven people that received Saskatchewan’s highest honour yesterday.

Lorne Carrier was presented with the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in a ceremony in Regina.

Carrier is a community development manager with the Saskatchewan Museums Association.

Carrier has dedicated himself to heritage, culture retention and awareness of First Nations cultures and traditions.

He has played a significant role in the development of a protocol for the handling and re-internment of ancient burials by establishing a First Nations Elders Advisory Committee.

Carrier is currently working with the Allen Sapp Gallery to help develop an exhibit called “Seeing Through the Eyes of the Cree”, which will open at the Canadian Museum of Civilization next year.

He’s also developing a Certificate in Aboriginal Museum Studies to be offered by the Museums Association of Saskatchewan.
