It looks as though band members at the Big River First Nation won’t have to travel to Shellbrook for doctors’ appointments after all.

The Prince Albert/Parkland Health Region has announced that Dr.Suria Bugwandin of the North Battleford area intends to fill the present gap.

Big River had been serviced by a husband/wife doctor team over the past few years, but it was recently learned they are leaving the area.

Earlier this month, it was announced that hospital services would be discontinued at the end of this month.

The health authority’s CEO, Gren Smith-Windsor adds Dr. Bugwandin¹s immigration status could possibly throw a monkey wrench into the plan, but they are confident it will get resolved.

Bugwandin could begin his duties as early as next Tuesday.

Smith-Windsor says, in the meantime, they will continue to try and find a second physician.
