Phyllis Head has been re-elected as chief of the Peter Chapman Cree Nation.

Head defeated challenger Alvin Whitehead by four votes to lay claim to another two-year term.

Head says some of her priorities include economic development, health and women’s issues.

However, her main concern is to get Peter Chapman recognized in the eyes of the federal government.

It was roughly 100 years ago that the band lost its status.

Head says she and officials from the John Cochrane First Nation and the Chaykostaypasin band hope to hear progress on their lawsuit against the government soon.

Head says concrete developments on the matter are needed soon, as she feels the Liberals’ minority government likely won’t be around that long.
