A northern community has been honoured for its dedication to reading.

Pelican Narrows has been named the “Readingest Community in Northern Saskatchewan” following the 16th annual Northern Reading Challenge.

For the last six weeks, northern libraries have been keeping track of all books read by local residents — and Pelican Narrows finished with the most points per capita.

Coordinator Harriet Roy says it’s a lot of work getting this event organized, but says it’s worth it if it will improve literacy in the region.

This is the first time Pelican Narrows has come away with the title.
