Pelican Narrows Murder Suspect to Stand Trial

A woman accused of stabbing her common-law partner to death on the Pelican Narrows reserve of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation appeared in court yesterday.

 

Joanna Laurel Linklater sat quietly while defense lawyers and Crown prosecutors laid out their arguments in a preliminary hearing before a provincial court judge in Prince Albert.

 

At the end of the hearing, it was determined Linklater would stand trial on a charge of second-degree murder.

 

22-year-old Joseph Jamie Merasty died on New Year’s Day as a result of stab wounds to his chest

 

Linklater will be tried at Court of Queen’s Bench.

 

No date has been set for her trial.
