A councillor with the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation says he can’t believe how leaders with the band are treating the recent emptying of a TLE trust account.
Tommy Sewap of Pelican Narrows says the band members who helped spend $3.7 million of Treaty Land Entitlement funds should be investigated by legal authorities promptly.
However, he says to this point, little action has been taken by trustees with the band to get to the bottom of what happened.
Sewap says PBCN band members have a right to know how their money was spent, and by whom.
Sewap is calling on anyone who had signing authority over the TLE account to resign.
Chief Ron Michel admitted several weeks ago that he was one of six people who had signing authority on the account.
Sewap also worries the band is considering selling off long-term assets like property to help pay off the bill.
