The chief of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation is excited about the economic future of his band.

Darrell McCallum says he’s already met with banks to discuss the news his party is about to move out of third party management.

McCallum says the move should help banks feel more confident dealing with his band.

The chief says he’s hopeful more job and housing opportunities will open up for his people, now that they have more of a say in where their money goes.

McCallum adds he’s sorry the band ever had to go under third party management in the first place.

However, he points out a lot of First Nations were put in the same situation at around the time Treaty Land Entitlement money was announced.
