PBCN Audit Nearing Completion

A consolidated audit of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation’s financial records is nearly complete says the band’s Chief.

Harold Linklater says once that process is complete, the band should be able to move out of third party management.

In December of 2004 until March of 2005, approximately $3.7 million went missing from the band’s Treaty Land Entitlement Fund.

Linklater says he’s determined to find out why that occurred. However, he says he’s discovered that approximately $2 million of that money was actually ear-marked for other projects.

Linklater says he has not called in legal authorities to help investigate because he needs to get all the facts first.

Meanwhile, Linklater says PBCN is on the hunt for new band trustees. He says a call has already gone out with the hopes new members will be found by springtime.

Linklater says a selection process will take place once all the new applicants are in place. He also vows to institute a new set of guidelines to prevent future conflicts of interest.
