An autopsy will be performed on a man from Patuanak whose lifeless body was recovered from a northern Saskatchewan river yesterday.

The 43-year-old man was ahead of a group of people travelling on snowmobiles to Patuanak along a nearby river, when he plunged into the ice.

His travelling companions didn’t see him go under, but found tracks that led to some open water.

A boat was brought in to help with a search, and his body was eventually found in the water.

The Mounties say the accident took place at around 1:30 Sunday morning.

The incident is still under investigation by the Patuanak RCMP.

The victim’s name is not being released pending authorization from next of kin.
