An outreach worker in Prince Albert says a new men’s shelter needs to be established before the city is hit with sub-zero temperatures.
Pastor Andrew Bear hopes to raise $200,000 towards the goal, with the hope of moving into the old men’s shelter on 15th Street.
He is asking businesses and churches to help make it happen. Bear is also appealing to surrounding First Nations to help with the issue, since many of the homeless are members of those bands.
Bear says many of the city’s homeless are ex-inmates who need help in starting new lives.
He hopes to give them that chance through the centre, and envisions opening a 20-bed facility that could take in men who no place to go.
He says anyone wanting to help with the effort can call 1-866-997-4632.
