Passengers Slightly Hurt Exiting Smoking Plane

About 20 people on a Transwest Air flight from La Ronge to Stony Rapids had some anxious moments last night.

The Saab 340 was less than five minutes away from Stony when it experienced an engine surge.

Transwest Air co-owner Jim Glass says the plane landed normally, but the engine started to smoke as the plane was taxiing on the runway.

Glass says fire extinguishers had to be used, and the passengers were forced to use the emergency exit.

He says a couple of them were slightly injured because of the height of the exit from the ground. They were taken to the local hospital as a precaution.

Glass says it appears an oil leak caused the engine to smoke.
