The Prince Albert Grand Council is moving ahead with plans to thin out brush near a number of its communities.

The tribal council recently received $1.75-million from the government to help with the effort.

The PAGC’s Richard Kent say removing trees and brush near the perimeter of northern communities is key to reducing the threat of wildfires.

The time frame for the project is two years.

Kent says the PAGC will talk with Saskatchewan Environment to determine what areas are at risk.

He says the purpose of the work is to reduce the number of times northern residents are forced to evacuate their homes when fires approach.
