PAGC Exploring Tribal Police Force Concept

A delegation from the Prince Albert Grand Council is in British Columbia this week studying a tribal police force in that province.

PAGC Justice director Gloria Lee says the grand council is looking at creating its own force that would service various northern communities.

Lee says if it materializes, the PAGC police service would work in tandem with the RCMP.

Lee says the PAGC is convinced a tribal police force with Aboriginal members would be even more effective than the RCMP.

She says the force would be based in one location, but have several outposts across the North.

Lee says, at the earliest, the force could be up and running in two years — but admits it likely will be 3 to 4 years before it’s established.
