A selection of northerners from bands within the Prince Albert Grand Council met yesterday to discuss the formation of a new healing centre.

Officially called the PAGC Residential School Healing Unit, the centre is designed to train northern representatives in assisting survivors of residential schools.

PAGC training facilitator Arlene Seegerts says it is extremely tough to find someone who hasn’t been touched by the schools in some way.

She adds 11 of the 12 bands within the PAGC have already received funding for the project.

Seegerts says each of the communities is looking at setting up a committee to assist with the project, as well.

She says training will begin in the near future.
