The Prince Albert Grand Council’s annual fall assembly got underway this morning in Prince Albert with several speeches — including one with a warning from an elder concerning the H1N1 flu situation.

In his address, Senator John Morin said he felt too many First Nations people are relying on others to tackle the looming flu pandemic for them.

Morin said reserve residents should talk to elders about what they did to weather flu pandemics in the past.

He added the elders seemed to know how to take care of themselves through a holistic lifestyle, and much can be learned from them.

PAGC officials also let it be known today that a new treasury board has been meeting over the last 10 months.

Its mandate is to ovesee all PAGC financial matters in a bid to improve stability.
