Some residents of Cumberland House were in Prince Albert yesterday to promote a canoe race that will wind its way through northern Saskatchewan next year.

Solomon Carriere is one of the northerners planning to take part in the event.

A long-time professional paddler, Carriere says he’s excited about the race — which will take participants through the Churchill River system from June 18th to July 4th next year.

He says the purpose of the event is to celebrate one hundred years of Saskatchewan heritage, while at the same time promoting a healthy lifestyle.

As part of the promotional tour, Carriere and a handful of others will travel the course this month.

They begin their trek Friday in La Loche.
