A lengthy list of award-winning musicians will be in Prince Albert this fall for the first ever Aboriginal Music and Arts festival.

October 5th is the date artists such as Derek Miller, Ray St. Germain, Leela Gilday and Shane Yellowbird will perform at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert.

Tom Jackson will host the extravaganza, which is aimed at celebrating Saskatchewan’s growing Aboriginal music scene with the rest of Canada.

Sheryl Kimbley is one of the organizers of the event.

Kimbley says part of the festival’s purpose is aimed at fostering up-and-coming talent, and that will be reflected through some special workshops that same week.

Organizers will also be bringing in northern youth that week who will be trained to host their own show, called “Northern Spirits”.

She adds a lot of work has gone into the festival so far, and organizers are confident it will be a good show.
