The Prince Albert Police Service is taking steps to weed out the number of people who get arrested for public intoxication.

Chief Dale McFee says the force is working will the local health region to provide counseling services to offenders, as soon as they step out of the cell.

McFee says it only makes sense to try and break the chain of addiction as soon as possible.

McFee says long-term infrastructure is needed to deal with the problem as well, but he sees this as a good first step to curbing the numbers.
