A spokesman for Weyerhaeuser says the company’s safety record is showing improvement at the Prince Albert Pulp and Paper Mill.
Wayne Roznowsky says the past six weeks have been spot-free at the plant. But he acknowledges the last quarter of 2005 was a different story.
The mill recorded twice as many incidents during that stretch as the previous nine months.
Roznowsky says the stress of the mill’s impending closure, may have played a part.
The CEO for Weyerhaeuser recently issued a call for better safety records at plants in both the United States and Canada.
Roznowsky says their record in 2005 was definitely better than 2004. But they’re still below the company average overall.
